Empires
A chronology of a war between hereditary enemies, the starvation of Paris, the disintegration of an  Empire, the violent birth of another.
Otto von Bismarck knew well the Gallic qualities of courage, patriotism, but he had also recognised arrogance and conceit. To exorcise his Gérolstein nightmare and unite Germany, he manoeuvres a minor squabble between Emperor Louis-Napoleon and King Wilhelm into a frivolous declaration of war by France.
Empires narrates the events as seen through different eyes: the disastrous and bloody French campaign; a mutual disdain between Paris and France – ‘France has declared war on Paris’; ambulance américaine; the starvation and bombardment of Paris; the balloonists; a Prussian Emperor proclaimed in the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles; the birth of the Paris Commune.
This text is descriptive, war is always a bloody affair.

The Milieu
Sydney 1975: Living and dying with the mob

The milieu is what the Sydney underworld calls itself. None of them really knew what the word meant; it became an argot, a slang that only they understood. A secret name for themselves.
It is 1975: The Rat Pack has more influence in the Queensland police service than the new Commissioner. In New South Wales they whisper about the Premier’s unexplained wealth and why the cops are mysteriously unable to locate the illegal casino, Club 33.
Sydney is in the shaky hands of Mr Big, Bally poker machines are in its clubs and its youth is being ravaged by heroin addiction.
The Federal Attorney-General wants to rebuild the Commonwealth police as an FBI and is looking for a man to go undercover and infiltrate the milieu. This will be an exceptionally dangerous assignment, requiring self-discipline, daring and imagination… and a man who’s just crazy enough to do it.
John Muller starts out as an honest cop, but how much temptation is too much?

9Circles is the story of one man’s struggle to live a good life in the face of its great temptations. Fleeing debt and a troubled wife in society London he arrives in emergent New South Wales where he is admitted as a barrister. Money troubles, a marriage too many, libellous prose, murder and the wrong clients are the ordeals he has been set.

The Justice Machine

Chas Robertson is driven to steal to survive through a severe drought. His crime is witnessed by a police Aboriginal tracker and he is charged. Suddenly he is accused of attempting to murder the same witness. If Chas cannot convince the jury of his innocence he faces time in Darlinghurst Gaol. Or worse!
Based on a true story, The Justice Machine examines the motivations of the players in the law game. The Magistrate, the Policeman, the Prosecutor, the Barrister and the Judge all have their own reasons for being there. Hardly any of them are to do with justice. The law and justice are different things it seems.
The year is 1882 but this could be any time. Injustice is timeless.
